Personal Bio

My name is Aaron (AJ) Mitnick. I am a graduate of IDC Herzliya, in Herzliya, Israel. Many people ask what IDC stands for…yeah it stands for Inter Disciplinary Center. No I didn’t do anything wrong, nor did I go to a military school. I majored in Finance with a minor in Basketball studies. Unfortunately I didn’t receive any tangible credit for my basketball studies, but I’d like to think staying up and catching most Knicks, Nets and nationally televised games on my Slingbox, in addition to watching endless amount of Israeli league and European games, was worthwhile.

Back in my high school days I was the starting center and captain of the varsity team at Kushner Yeshiva High School. These are the benefits of being 6″2 in a Jewish high school. During my Senior season I served as assistant coach for the Junior Varsity team. In 08-09 I coached the Varsity team at Kushner at the annual Red Saracheck Basketball Tournament at Yeshiva Univesity finishing with a 2-2 record after the team had come off a 3-11 season.

Last season, I wrote the English based website for Bnei Hasharon (currently Bnei Hasharon/Herzliya) of the Israeli Premier League (Ligat Lotto). This experience gave me my first real experience interacting with professional basketball players, coaches and managers on a regular basis and provided me with a solid knowledge base that helped me grow as both a writer and a basketball mind.

I currently am learning the trade of coaching and scouting with Maccabi Rishon Lezion while I work towards attaining a professional basketball coaching license from the Wingate Institute. I take every day as an opportunity to learn, and am looking forward to learning more about basketball and life as time moves on.
